Cititel Penang Hotel

cititel penang hotel20 December 2007

I thought of staying at Cititel Penang Hotel Georgetown after the numerous people commenting about the great hotel they have in Mid Valley. Thus, after a quick comparison of the numerous travel sites, it was learned that http://www.cititelpenang.com had the cheapest at RM 130 for a standard room. Others were at least RM 190, not sure why the obvious price gap.

Unfortunately, my stay was very short and only lasted 1 night due to my customer commitments. However, I must say RM 130 is really value money compared to other hotels in this price range though no buffet breakfast. It definitely beats Red Rock Hotel though its rooms were bigger but the facilities less, ceiling low & looks more dodgy. It boasts of a comfortable queen sized bed with nice bed spread, fridge, tea/coffee making facilities & long bath in the toilet. The rooms appear abit dim even in the daytime as there is only 1 small window. However, the toilet did have a slight cigarette smell but maybe that could be rectified if I opted for the non-smoking floor

On the facilities end, it has a large reception area where there is wifi connectivity, wifi is also present at the dining lobbyplaces but is not free. The lobby area is even bigger than other larger hotels like Sunway hotel & Berjaya hotel in Georgetown & it even has a few convenient outlets too including a florist. As is a business hotel, it also has a fully equipped business centre. There are 3 dining outlets, Main street Cafe offering international cuisine, Zhonghua Gourmet offering chinese cuisine & Kirishima with Japanese food. At the Health Centre, there is a Gymnasium; Steam, Sauna & Massage rooms; indoor Jacuzzi Pool which is actually a small swimming pool. Additionally, once step outside, the hotel’s proximity to the famous eating places along Penang Street as well as the numerous cafes & pubs really gives it a plus point. Thus, is definitely better than Red Rock Hotel where it does not have a swimming poolgym, clean swimming pool, convenience outlets, Japanese restaurant & the cafe is small.

In summary, Cititel Penang is good for budget business travelers with its variety of facilities, but upon observing luxury of the room, it does not seem to be a 4 star hotel as rated by many travel agents so my rating will be a 3 star hotel. Furthermore, with its large number of rooms standing at 451 rooms, it should be easy to get a room here though I have experienced this hotel being fully booked with exception of the suite or pinnacle rooms.
