Pricey & normal Ying Ker Lou @ Sunway Pyramid

drunken egg ginger wine2 April 2008

It was a very jammed Wednesday evening & nevertheless took my cousin from Canada out. After the long ride to Sunway Pyramid, we wasted no time to look for a place to settle down & eat. Western food aside since that can be obtained anytime in Canada, it was between japanese genki sushi or Sakae or Chinese-Hakka Ying Ker Lou, the latter was finally decided after some haggling & given the thought that there were many cheap Japanese buffets in Vancouver.

After a quick look at some of the recommended items on the menu, crispy belly pork at RM20 & drunken egg ginger wine  at RM 14 was ordered assuming the portions would be big. Both tasted good crispy belly porkbut considering the types of food served, I always think it would be better to eat at an ordinary chinese restaurant at either the same price with a bigger portion or at a cheaper price. If one were to look after their diet or waist, the belly pork would definitely be a no-no as it was noticed most of it was fat, otherwise it would be tasty with lots of the tasty ‘nam yee’ red stuff. The egg ginger wine had the right amount of ginger with lots of wine making the steam coming out from it extremely fragrant, however, that was all to it as it only had egg & fungus, making it more like just a soup to drink.

Thus, as a summary, if only chinese food is the option at a shopping mall & you do not like those Hong Kong style cafes, then this is the place to choose, otherwise the choice is not authentic & pricey . Total bill was RM 54 for 3 persons with 3 plain rice at RM 1.50 each, 3 normal water at RM 1.20 each & ginseng drink at RM 5 but 1 or 2 hours later both of us was hungry, clearly showing that we did not order enough, ha!
