Greenwood Cafe ?? @ SS2 closed

GreenWood Cafe25 April 2008

Greenwood Cafe, the latest eatery in SS2, easily spotted opposite ?  ?  ?  ?  ? Wong Kok Char Chan Teng, opened by a chef-cum-owner, Jasman Tajuddin, who used to work in La Bodega (some updates on La Bodega’s Atrium at Heritage Row, it is closed for good on 8th last month, another sad news after the branch at Jalan Alor!). Yeah, this shop lot has ‘changed hands’ pretty frequent from ‘Shall We Meet’ previously.

Sirloin Steak with mashed potatoesThis place has been open around the last quarter of 2007. It is a fusion cafe which offers Western and Asian delight. However, you will find it always very much empty compared to most eateries in SS2, another pity dining place. I was actually attracted by their set lunch and dinner. The set lunch from RM7 offer mostly asian food and set dinner, priced from RM15, offers mostly western like lobster, steak, sphagetti and alot more! So, I swore to myself that I must give it a try one day regardless the emptiness.

On one fine weekday, I really came back, and there was a TV3 crew shooting in the restaurant, so it was not empty, ha! I find the waiters here very friendly, they always smile at you whenever you have eye Grill Lobster with fried rice setcontact with them, you can also find board games and free wifi here, which is good for me who always have problems with streamyx at home.

Now, let’s see what this ordinary cafe with great exp chef can offer. Wow, the choices are quite extensive and yet specialised, from a wide variety of western
breakfast, pancakes, sandwiches, salad, pasta, soup, pies that made upon order, western and seafood up to asian delight, hot & chilled drinks and also alcohol!
After quite awhile struggling on my choice from the menu, we finally settled with sirloin steak (RM16) and lobster fried rice (RM15), both come with tea and fruits. The drink given is a combination of chinese tea and chinese herbal tea, definitely interesting set lunch menubut …. haha!

Here comes the main courses, it is pleasantly presented with 2 slices of garlic butter (looks like cheese on first glance) on top of the sirloin steak and big portion of mashed potatoes. The steak is cooked medium rare as requested, it is sooo tender and juicy, and grilled to perfection with a light charcoal taste, accompanied with a smooth and flavourful potatoes. Needless to comment about the lobster set, 1 whole slipper lobster was served. It is fresh, bouncy and delicious until my friend is so stingy to share a small bite with me but hey, don’t overexpect from a cafe with this price, it is far good enough.

Sometimes, I just could not understand why so many eateries, char chan tengs out there that offer substandard and pricey food or those who are plainly selling new ideas but overpriced food are crowded while those sincerely pouring their skills, ideas and effort to serve good food and ambience cannot even survive moderately? Are we flooded with too many choices, are we just looking for fancy food or up for stylst and trendy places just to hang out with friends and have a simple drink?

Anyway, I will prepare myself for some Caesar salad with smoked salmon, french toast, cakes & deserts and many more next time. Well, I have not tried any of their local delights and I heard it is not recommended, I hope they will improve on that, it could be true looking at their spanish and western background.
